You know, my intense love for Teen Wolf has really been amplified by the fact that this is a no-hate fandom. But in the past two days, since the last episode aired, all I see is wank. Wank everywhere. Hating on the characters, hating on the ships, hate, hate, hate, hate, hate. And I just want to make it clear that, while everyone is entitled to their opinions, you have no reason to post them over and over again in the tracked tag. No one who is actually going through the tag wants to read it, I assure you.

Because there’s so much happening in that moment, and I can’t resist talking about how it makes me FEEL.

The fact that the people behind Teen Wolf openly talk about the primary slash pairing of the fandom and doesn’t try and keep it hidden under the rug like, “Uh, yeah… we’ve seen it… anyway,” but openly talks about it like, “I think episode 4 is going to make Sterek fans very happy lol” and “Last nights episode was gold for all you #sterek fans!”
They’re not all on some unreachable island, looking down on the weirdo faction of the fandom and tries to pretend we don’t exist unless under duress, when they’ll laugh it off and change the subject.
They acknowledge us and are stoked for us when we get good things.
And after season 1 aired and they saw that everyone wanted Derek and Stiles to end up together, they didn’t try to tone down their scenes together to diffuse that, but instead realized that they have great chemistry and then, “We actually started out, in the writer’s room, with a heading that said, ‘Great pairings,’ and at the top of that was Derek and Stiles.”
I don’t know. We’re just really lucky to be fans of this show. That’s all I can say.

Um. Does this really count as queerbaiting?
Pretty sure queerbaiting is the kind of thing SPN engages in, where little nods to the fandom and the slash pairings and careful use of the previews and joking nods at cons are offset by plenty of BUT LOOK HOW STRAIGHT WE ARE in the show to remind the normal viewers that everything’s no homo.
This is more…relationship-baiting, of the kind that occurs with het relationships on shows all the time. They’re not so much giving little side nods of hey look, we know you exist! as they are openly celebrating the idea of the relationship with us. If Erika had been introduced as a love interest for Derek, then yeah, it’d be queerbaiting, but she clearly wasn’t, as shown this episode. Stiles’ infatuation with Lydia predates Sterek, so they wouldn’t just drop that; that doesn’t make it queerbaiting, that’s just consistent writing. The only time someone in the show has been like “but I’m straight” was Scott; Stiles has been openly concerned with whether he’s attractive to gay guys/focused on penises on his paper/jokingly hit on Scott/etc without a single ‘no homo’ moment of straight-affirming (despite hanging out with Danny a fair bit which would be a prime opportunity for one in any other show).
I actually think that this is a really progressive attitude to slash ships, especially compared with other shows currently. It might not be perfect, but it’s leaps and bounds ahead of pretty much everyone else.

Hey, all! Sorry I’ve been filling prompts kinda slowly lately. I’ve been busy preparing for a trip I’m taking this weekend to Orlando, Florida, and I’ve been putting together a- drumroll please- TEEN WOLF ROLEPLAY SITE! I’m going to try and get all the prompts in my ask box done before Thursday, since that’s when I’m leaving town. And for all you RPers out there, my site will be opening on Monday! :3
